Yes, your factories might make a bit more money if you don't have high tariffs but that is close to nothing compared to what you would gain from having them at 100%. Whatever you are doing there is Absolutely no reason to keep tariffs lower than 100% until 1860! That is where your technology starts to kick in(if you focused on industry and commerce). It has to do with global market and resources that your country posses. Now about population, kinda repeating this for countless times but still very important to understand.ДЄ You don't want your population to promote until you get rid of artisans which wont happen before 1860-1870s, not having high tariffs will make it even slower.Д« Most of the time parts of your population will get no or all the life needs regardless of tariffs and taxation, test it and you will see. I mentioned in video why this is NOT TRUE, if tariffs are reducing your profit from factories that means that you have wrong type of factories for your country thus even if those factories are making money with low tariffs you will actually be losing money because you could have made factories that would make money even if your tariffs were at 100%!

This means that you can build a railroad in one province of another country, and if no other GP invests anything (which they rarely do), you get a free 50% advantage over them. If I (France) invested ВЈ9000 and the UK invested ВЈ3000, then I would get a -12.5% modifier on influence gain, the UK would get a -37.5% modifier on influence gain, and every other Great Power would get a -50% modifier on influence gain. The game takes the total amount of investment coming into a country and gives penalties based on who didn't invest in it. The reason why is because it effects the amount of influence you and other Great Powers gain in a country.

Foreign investment is incredibly useful for getting countries into your sphere of influence. While this makes profitable factories more profitable, it also makes unprofitable factories more unprofitable. This means that you are increasing the amount of inputs and outputs for factories.

When you are talking about bonuses to factories from having the inputs in the state, those are throughput bonuses (railroads give a bonus to throughput also).
